Are Dried Goji Berries Less Nutritious?
It is hard to find fresh goji berries in the market as preserving them in raw form is a big challenge. Importers and exporters have been searching ways to effectively preserve the fruit so that the nutrients will not get lost during transportation or storage. Raw goji berries undergo the same process as raisins, in which the berries are sun-dried before pack or ship. Through sun-drying, the antioxidant characteristics and the rich taste of goji berries are preserved and maintained. The sun-dried goji berries still contain the basic nutrients despite the food processing technique.
The product is de-aerated and should remain such so that it could last up to about one or two years without changing and losing the basic nutritional value. To confirm if the sun-dried goji is still containing the nutrients, you may observe its color. If the color has turned dark red or brown after the package is opened or after certain period of time, that means the product was aired and probably has lost the basic nutrients. Therefore, it is important to keep the dried goji berries in refrigerator or in a non humid area after opened for proper preservation.
